The 1964 San Diego Vaquero Basketball team was recently honored to be the GRAND MARHALLS of the PURO PARTY Festival parade.

Tommy & Modesto Garcia, San Diego High School Basketball & Track coach in 1960's.
Coached only team from San Diego (1964) to make it to State Basketball Tournament.
Won District Champinship in Basketball and Track/Field several consecutive years in the 1950's & 1960's.
Coached in Falfurrias, Rio Grande and Brownsville after leaving San Diego.
Mo is a member of Texas Coaching Association Hall of Fame. He's retired and living in Brownsville, Texas.

1. Manuel Esparza, 1963 All State Football, played football at Texas Lutheran, was, in my opinion best all-round
athlete on team, now in Insurance/money management business in Alice, Texas.

2. Lupe Ibarra, Retired, long time law enforcement career, in Houston & here in San Diego. Best ball handler on team.

3. Tommy Molina - Rice University - 4 years Basketball

4. Carlos "Chale" Trevino, the only Junior on the team, 1964 State Cross Country runner up... currently the Food Services Director for San Diego ISD, and also, long time un-official basketball coach. His son is currently the SDISD head Basket ball coach.

5. Walter Reyna, All State Track and field 1964 Cross Country Champ, Miler and 3 mile runner at Baylor U. 1964-68, currently in Ins/Investment business in McAllen Texas.
